Potty Training

The dreaded month is here....the month to start training the kids to use the potty. Lexy has been going #2 in the potty for over a year but can't quite get the peeing in the potty down. Nathan went yesterday for the first time and promptly told me "fishing pole now, Mommy?". He went again today and said "tackle box now, Mommy?". Before he runs my savings out, I bought a bag of kit kats (his favorite), and now that is his special treat for pottying. The both have done pretty well so far, so as long as I can keep up, we will keep going. Everytime one uses the potty, the other is screaming b/c they want on the potty too...fun times!! Diapers are costing us close to $150 a month now, because we added Camryn in the diaper business too. Way too much to spend on something that is filled with you know what and thrown out in the garbage!!
Other than that, not much going on. Lexy had her IEP this week and it went pretty good. I'm going to go and visit and make sure I like this set up first, but I think it will work best for Lexy. She'll spend 60% of her day in the regualar class, and the other time she will get more one on one in special ed. Camryn is growing like a little weed, and has the best little personality ever. She loves watching Lexy and Nathan and all the crazy things they do. They are her entertainment, no saucers or bouncy seats needed here!! She has had the sniffles the last couple days, but I'm just giving her breathing treatments again and hopefully it'll pass soon without much hoopla. Nathan is our little talker, and could carry a converstaion with you all darn day long. He loves to sing now, and his favorite is the Winnie the Pooh song right now. Right up my alley!! He is obessed with bowling and fishing on the Wii. Hence the fishing pole prize!! We are going to have a bowling party for him for his bday, so I'm really excited to see how well he does.
Well better go, off to shut off the potty timer and get going once again. Have a good weekend!!

Hey! Have you tried Lexy in underware/panties all the time? You can also give her and Nathan lots of liquids and then take them to the potty every 15 mins. If they go they get their "treat". Making a sticker chart helps too to reinforce the good pottying behavior :) I know it's a pain to clean up messes but the underware thing all the time works usually b/c they don't like to be wet. If it comes down to just an initiation thing where she just doesn't tell you but will go when you take her then you should have her say it every time you go. Before you walk into the bathroom have her say "Go potty" or anything like that. That way she knows that this is what I say. Then you can start letting her go while you wait outside and gradually fading yourself away but reminding her and then fading that to "what do you need to do". Eventually fading that too. Hope that helps. I've potty trained lots of little guys and girls, mostly with autism but it has been successful so I thought I would let ya know. Have fun with the training ;)
